 artist statement

my painting practice is about landscape and the love of country – the beauty, solitude and wide open spaces of the australian bush. i live in and travel through the great Outback, and lately BEYOND – far beyond, making works informed by my experiences. my many influences include the works of Matisse and the Fauves, Turner, Schwitters, Duchamp, Fred Williams, John Olsen and Peter Griffen. in my paintings i am searching for something more than the visual scene, something to do with being in and being connected to the land and its benign and enduring presence. I am very drawn to collage as a complimentary and contemporary medium. i so love its unexpected  and random qualities and the way it is transformed in the new setting of a painting.
